Netflix has finally given subscribers what most of us have wanted for a long time: the ability to download shows and watch them without an internet connection.
This is both huge news and, in a way, old news. Huge for Netflix subscribers, in that we’re no longer limited to watching (certain) Netflix titles only with an internet or mobile data connection. Old in that Amazon has been letting Amazon Prime subscribers download Prime Video titles since at least last year.
Be that as it may, Netflix is quick to point out that not every show available on its streaming service is downloadable. But still, there are plenty of television programs and films that you can download to your Android (4.4.2 or later) or iOS (8.0 or later) device using the Netflix Android or Netflix iOS app. (No, you can’t download Netflix stuff to your Amazon Fire HD Tablet, for obvious reasons.)
For all you stateside Brit TV fans, the downloadable pickings are limited in the US, but they’re not slim in the scheme of things. If you add films into the mix, then you have dozens more choices. And Netflix has stated that more shows and movies will be available for download down the road.
In the meantime, here are 100 British, Australian, New Zealander, and Canadian television titles that you can download right now from Netflix US.
(As an aside, I downloaded Series 3 of of both Black Mirror and Burnistoun, and it only took a few minutes to get the 12 episodes on my phone using my home wifi connection.)
