Twenty British, Irish, Australian, and Canadian series premiere nationally in the US in May, while In the Club debuts on, and Scott & Bailey and Shetland return to, public TV stations.

One hundred thirty TV shows from British Commonwealth territories and Ireland were new to the US in 2015, and selecting my fifteen favorites of the year took some doing.

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas, as holiday specials, dramas, a mockumentary and rockumentary, a music-filled movie, and a proper musical, premiere on US channels and streaming services this month.

Soon to join The Amazing Race and Survivor at CBS is the new reality competition series Hunted, as intense to watch as it is for the folks who go on the run to avoid being captured.

Sky 1, Sky plc’s flagship pay TV channel in the UK and Ireland, has renewed its focus and upped its investment in original programming, and at least some of its shows are headed to the US.

Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus. And he’s brought presents quite early (Christmas in February!) but in the form of Brit TV news. Specifically, news that 50 Ways to Kill Your Mammy, Broadchurch, and Hunderby are returning to telly.

It’s not what you’re thinking, despite the words “kill,” “mother,” and “reality series” being in the title. What 50 Ways to Kill Your Mother is, is my new #1 favorite TV show.

Is it authentic or isn’t it? That question is just the tip of the iceberg when the British-mystery-meets-Antiques-Roadshow-meets-Art-of-the-Western-World series, Fake or Fortune?, returns to local PBS stations this Spring.
