Created for television by writer Julian Unthank (Doc Martin, New Tricks), Queens of Mystery is a contemporary murder mystery series that follows the perennially-single detective, DS Matilda Stone, and her three aunts — well-known crime writers who help Matilda solve whodunit-style murders, as well as set her up on blind dates.

Noted theatre and television actress Olivia Vinall (The Woman in White, Apple Tree Yard, Maigret) stars as Matilda Stone. Playing the aunts are Julie Graham (The Bletchley Circle, Shetland) as Matilda’s rebellious Aunt Cat, Sarah Woodward (The Politician’s Husband, New Tricks) as her motherly Aunt Beth, and Siobhan Redmond (Alfresco, Between the Lines) as her book-smart Aunt Jane.

Joining them are Andrew Leung (Doctor Who) as the dashing Dr. Daniel Lynch; Rebecca Grant (Holby City) as Daniel’s mean-spirited girlfriend Natasha; Michael Elcock (The Grey Tarmac Road) as Police Constable Terry Foster, who has long been in love with Matilda; and Martin Trenaman (The Inbetweeners) as the dry Inspector Derek Throne.

Guest stars in the first episode, “Murder in the Dark,” include Selina Cadell (Doc Martin), Omid Djalili (Dickensian), and Chu Omambala (Liar).

Oscar® nominee and BAFTA® winner Ian Emes (Goodie-Two-Shoes) is the lead director.

Filled with quirky characters, fast-paced dialogue, darkly comic murders, and bold visuals, the wickedly offbeat, Amélie-esque Queens of Mystery — a project of Sly Fox Productions in association with Ferncroft Media and Acorn Media Enterprises — goes into production on Monday, September 10, in Kent in South East England.

The first series, which consists of three feature-length episodes, will make its North American premiere in 2019 as an Acorn TV Original, exclusively on Acorn TV.

Queens of Mystery follows Acorn TV’s earlier commissions — Agatha Raisin: Series 2, which premieres in the US and Canada in November, and London Kills, which launches in 2019.

Stay tuned for updates.
