SundanceTV released today the trailer for Season 2 of the multiple Emmy® Awards-winning short-form anthology series State of the Union. Check it out.
In the new season of this groundbreaking short-form comedy-drama series, the award-winning writer/director duo of Nick Hornby (Brooklyn, An Education) and Stephen Frears (The Queen, A Very English Scandal) continue to cleverly explore relationships and the human experience.
The second installment of State of the Union, the winner of the Emmy Award for Outstanding Short Form Comedy or Drama Series in 2019, features a new cast that includes Brendan Gleeson (The Tragedy of Macbeth, In Bruges), Patricia Clarkson (Pieces of April, Sharp Objects), and Esco Jouléy (High Maintenance).
Liberal campaigning Ellen (Clarkson) drags her traditional, self-made husband Scott (Gleeson) out of his comfort zone and into a hipster Connecticut coffee shop, where they have 10 minutes before their marriage counseling session to drink a coffee, gather their thoughts, and argue about everything from Quakerism to pronouns. Each week, between the bickering, they begin to piece together what has gone wrong between them, and as the weeks go by, they start to deconstruct their 30-year marriage. Past betrayals are aired, their sex life is re-examined, and their vulnerabilities are finally shared. By the end of ten weeks of marital counseling, they’re not the same couple they used to be — but is making a change enough to save their marriage, or should they walk away?
State of the Union: Season 2 premieres in the US on Monday, February 14 — via linear TV on SundanceTV, where the ten 10-minute episodes will unfold across ten consecutive nights starting at 10 PM ET, and via streaming on Sundance Now and AMC+, where viewers can do a full-season binge.
