Actors David Tennant and Michael Sheen reunite, albeit remotely, for the short-form comedy series Staged, which is about to premiere in the US.
Having costarred in the television adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s Good Omens last year, Michael Sheen (Prodigal Son, Masters of Sex) and David Tennant (Doctor Who, Broadchurch) reconnected earlier this year — via the internet — to bring us Staged.
The series of six 15-minute episodes stars Tennant and Sheen as fictionalized versions of themselves, two famous actors who were supposed to appear together in a West End play. Except it was Covid-19 that entered stage left, and the subsequent lockdown forced the play to be put on hold.
Not to be outdone by a pandemic, Simon Evans, the play’s director (played by Simon Evans), convinces David and Michael to (keep calm and) carry on — by rehearsing the show online.
Hilarity ensues… as do cameos by Dame Judi Dench (Philomena), Samuel L. Jackson (Pulp Fiction), and Adrian Lester (Hustle) as themselves and Nina Sosanya (Brave New World) as the play’s financier, plus regular appearances by David’s wife, Georgia Tennant (Doctor Who), and Michael’s partner, Anna Lundberg,
Staged premieres in the US in its entirety tomorrow, Wednesday, September 16, on Hulu.
