A spin-off of Doctor Who, Torchwood was the most-watched program on BBC America when it debuted in 2007. Ditto when Torchwood: Children of Earth premiered in 2009. And now the last season of the series, Torchwood: Miracle Day, is coming to the cable channel. (It had originally aired in the U.S. in 2011 on the pay cable channel STARZ.)

Back are John Barrowman (Arrow) as Torchwood team leader Captain Jack Harkness, Eve Myles (Doctor Who) as former Torchwood agent Gwen Cooper, and Kai Owen as Gwen’s husband Rhys. They’re joined by Mekhi Phifer (Divergent), Alexa Havins (Grey’s Anatomy), Bill Pullman (Independence Day), Lauren Ambrose (Six Feet Under), Wayne Knight (3rd Rock from the Sun), Nana Visitor (Star Trek: Deep Space Nine), and John de Lancie (Star Trek: The Next Generation), amongst other television and film stars, in the ten-episode series.

There are no aliens, cyborgs, or evil time travelers to fend off in Torchwood: Miracle Day. Instead, Torchwood must defend Earth against its biggest threat yet: mankind itself.

In the opener, everyone in the world stops dying. (Ergo, miracle.) Convicted murderer Oswald Danes (Pullman) survives his execution by lethal injection, CIA Agent Rex Matheson (Phifer) lives after having been impaled in a car crash, and it becomes clear that there is something very sinister going on. The CIA stumbles upon a possible lead — a single word: Torchwood — and Rex and his partner, CIA Analyst Esther Drummond (Havins), set out to discover what Torchwood is.

Over in Wales, Gwen Cooper lives in hiding with her husband Rhys and daughter Anwen; she’s the last surviving Torchwood member on Earth, and is determined to stay hidden. Then Esther encounters the mysterious Captain Jack Harkness, and they, Gwen, and Rex team up to discover who’s behind the death-defying miracles and what’s the source of this disruption to the natural order of life, all while assassins threaten to wipe out the Torchwood team once and for all.

Torchwood: Miracle Day premieres on BBC America on Saturday, 14 September at 9PM Eastern. Leading up to the premiere, BBC America will air a marathon of Torchwood: Season Two and Torchwood: Children of Earth beginning Friday, 13 September at 11PM.
