American William Hurt, Englishwoman Rebecca Front, and Irishman Colin Morgan are just a few of the actors cast in the Kudos-AMC-Channel 4 co-production of Humans, a remake of the Swedish sci-fi series, Real Humans (Äkta Människor).
Set in a parallel present, Humans follows the stories of humans and “synths” — highly-developed robotic servants that are eerily similar to their flesh-and-blood counterparts.
William Hurt (Damages, Endgame) stars as widower George Millican, whose close relationship with outdated synth Odi is complicated.
Katherine Parkinson (The IT Crowd, Doc Martin) and Tom Goodman-Hill (Mr. Selfridge, Spy) play married couple Laura and Joe, whose purchase of synth Anita, portrayed by Gemma Chan (Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit, Fresh Meat), has chilling consequences.
Colin Morgan (Merlin, The Fall) is Leo, a synth sympathizer (synthathizer?) who is on the run, and Neil Maskell (Utopia, The Mimic) is DS Peter Drummond of the Special Technologies Task Force.
Also playing synths are: Rebecca Front (Inspector Lewis, The Thick Of It) as Vera, George’s home-care synth; Will Tudor (Game Of Thrones, In the Club); and Emily Berrington (24: Live Another Day, The White Queen).
Filming of Humans begins later this year for transmission in 2015 on AMC in the US and Channel 4 in the UK.
