HBO announced today the US premiere date for Season 2 of Avenue 5, the sci-fi comedy series from Armando Iannucci, co-produced with Sky UK. Check out the trailer.
Created by two-time Emmy® winner Armando Iannucci (Veep, The Thick of It, In the Loop), Avenue 5 is set 40 years in the future, when traveling the solar system is no longer the stuff of sci-fi fantasy but a booming, multi-billion-dollar business.
Season 2 of Avenue 5, an HBO Original series, premieres in the US on Monday, October 10, at 10 PM ET/PT, exclusively on HBO, with streaming available on HBO Max.
Hugh Laurie (House, Roadkill, The Night Manager) returns to lead the ensemble cast, which includes series regulars Josh Gad (Wolf Like Me), Zach Woods (Silicon Valley), Rebecca Front (The Other One), Suzy Nakamura (Dr. Ken), Lenora Crichlow (Being Human), Nikki Amuka-Bird (Gold Digger), and Ethan Phillips (Girls).
Guest Stars in Season 2 include Andy Buckley (The Office), Jessica St. Clair (American Housewife), Kyle Bornheimer (Brooklyn Nine-Nine), Adam Pålsson (Young Wallander), Daisy May Cooper (This Country), Lucy Punch (Motherland), Leila Farzad (I Hate Suzie), Jonathan Aris (Sherlock), and Arsher Ali (Cold Courage).
The eight-episode new season of Avenue 5 opens five months after the finale of Season 1, whose nine episodes revolve around a luxury spacecraft owned by Herman Judd (Josh Gad) getting thrown disastrously off-course. With Captain Ryan Clark (Hugh Laurie) being way over his head and his crew failing to reroute the spaceship, what was supposed to be an eight-week cruise turns into an eight-year journey.
So here they all are, all but lost in space, and the crew — including fiery engineer Billie (Lenora Crichlow), unpredictable head of customer relations Matt (Zach Woods), and faithful right-hand Iris (Suzy Nakamura) — are still struggling to lead, calm, control, and, if need be, hide from the increasingly unruly passengers. On earth, they’re lauded as heroes; in space, everyone can hear them scream.
The series is executive produced by Armando Iannucci, Kevin Loader, and Will Smith; the co-executive producers are Keith Akushie, Jon Brown, and Sean Gray. The supervising producers are Ian Martin and Rose Heiney, and the line producer is Richard Daldry.
