The Great Escaper (UK)

Global treasure and two-time Oscar® winner Michael Caine (Alfie, Hannah and Her Sisters, The Cider House Rules) stars in this biopic-historical drama as Bernard Jordan, who made global headlines in the summer of 2014 when he staged a “great escape” from his care home to join fellow war veterans on a beach in Normandy and commemorate their fallen comrades at the 70th anniversary of the D-Day Landings. Costarring alongside Caine is the late, great, two-time Oscar® winner Glenda Jackson (A Touch of Class, Women in Love, Elizabeth Is Missing) as Bernie’s devoted wife, Irene. While Bernie is on his trip to Normandy, Irene recalls their younger days and falling in love during World War II.

Bernie’s story captured the imagination of the world as he embodied the defiant, “can-do” spirit of a generation that was fast disappearing. But it wasn’t the whole story. It was also an inspirational but sanitized retelling of one man’s need to come to terms with the lasting trauma of war.

The Great Escaper premieres in the US on Sunday, November 23, at 9pm, on PBS (check your local listings), with streaming available on PBS.org and the PBS app.

But when the assassin’s target flees, Harry and Fergus (Rohan Nedd, Whitstable Pearl, Safe) find themselves in the crosshairs of their most dangerous adversary yet.

The Harry Wild Special, an Acorn TV Original, premieres in the US on Monday, November 24, on Acorn TV.

But it isn’t long before events throw them back together, alongside their luvvie assistant Sebastian (Patrick Walshe McBride, The Chelsea Detective, Giri/Haji), and they’re back working the cobbled streets of Shakespeare’s birthplace to solve more thrilling mysteries and murders most foul.

Amongst their cases are a horror movie director who finds himself terrorized by one of his own creations; a client who is fatally electrocuted at a team-building retreat; and a killer who is on the loose in an isolated mansion during a murder mystery school reunion.
