Mr. Loverman: BritBox Sets North American Premiere Date for BAFTA-Winning Drama

BritBox has set the North American premiere date for Mr. Loverman, the BAFTA-winning drama series starring Lennie James.

Mr. Loverman tells a poignant and powerful story and explores the themes of love, identity, and reinvention in later life with equal parts heart and humor.

Starring in the eight-episode series are 2025 BAFTA TV Leading Actor award winner Lennie James (The Walking Dead, Snatch), 2025 BAFTA TV Supporting Actor winner Ariyon Bakare (Karen Pirie, His Dark Materials), and 2025 BAFTA TV Leading Actress nominee Sharon D. Clarke (Havoc, Inspector Ellis) — whose BAFTA recognition this year was for their performances in Mr. Loverman.

The story centers on Barrington Jedidiah Walker, Esq. (Lennie James) — Barry to his mates, and trouble to his wife, daughters, and lover. Born in Antigua, he’s an exuberant 70-year-old personality in Hackney, London, renowned for his dapper taste and fondness for retro suits.

Carmel (Sharon D. Clarke), Barry’s wife of fifty years, senses that he’s been cheating on her with other women. But she doesn’t know what’s really going on: He’s been having a secret, passionate, decades-long affair with his best friend and soulmate, Morris (Ariyon Bakare).

Now entering the next chapter of his life, Barry has big choices to make that will force his whole family to question their own futures.

Mr. Loverman premieres in North America with two half-hour episodes on Wednesday, June 4, on BritBox. New episodes will drop in pairs through June 25.

Based on Mr. Loverman (#ad), one of the most highly-celebrated novels by Booker Prize winner Bernardine Evaristo, the series is adapted for the screen by Nathaniel Price (The Outlaws, Noughts & Crosses) and directed by Hong Khaou (Baptiste, Lilting, Alice & Jack).
