Everyone’s favorite mystery-solving priest returns to BritBox next month, when the SVOD service begins streaming Season 8 of Father Brown in North America.
Based on the character created by G.K. Chesterton in his “Father Brown” short stories, the TV show Father Brown is now the third longest-running daytime drama on BBC television. The series stars Mark Williams (Harry Potter) as the eponymous Roman Catholic priest and amateur sleuth who both saves souls and solves mysteries in the sleepy Cotswold village of Kembleford.
With its ninth season already commissioned, the series’s eighth is set for its streaming debut in the US and Canada on Wednesday, July 1, exclusively on BritBox and its digital channels, including BritBox on Prime Video Channels.
Debut day kicks off with Season 8’s first two episodes.
In “The Celestial Choir,” a mysterious saboteur tries to stop the Kembleford Choristers from winning the Three Counties Choir competition by preventing them from even getting there, and Mrs. McCarthy (Sorcha Cusack, River) suspects rivals the Hambleston Harmonisers. While she and everyone else on the coach, including Lady Felicia (Nancy Carroll, Prime Suspect Tennison), Sergeant Goodfellow (John Burton, Coronation Street), and the rest of the choristers, race against time to get to the competition before they are disqualified, Father Brown gets help from Bunty Windermere (Emer Kenny, Pramface) and Inspector Mallory (Jack Deam, DCI Banks) to discover who really is out to get them.
After beekeeper Beatie May (Annabelle Apsion, Call the Midwife) is found dead in a smoke-filled room in “The Queen Bee,” Inspector Mallory has reason to believe her son is the culprit and arrests him. Meanwhile, Father Brown learns the victim had recently changed her will and that she had made many enemies, at least one of whom wanted her gone. Permanently.
New episodes will debut in pairs on Wednesdays.
Returning in guest roles in Season 8 are Alex Price (Penny Dreadful) as Sid Carter, John Light (WPC 56) as Hercule Flambeau, Hugo Speer (London Kills) as Chief Inspector Valentine, and Tom Chambers (Casualty) as Chief Inspector Sullivan.
Guest stars in the new season include Pippa Haywood (Scott & Bailey), Paul Copley (Downton Abbey), Niamh Cusack (The Virtues), Ian Puleston-Davies (Pennyworth), Amanda Lawrence (Above Suspicion), and Cal MacAninch (The Victim).
