Foyle's WarFilming to Begin Soon on New Foyle’s War Episodes

If you’re a fan of the British detective series, Foyle’s War, then it’s time for you to do a happy dance, because you have new episodes to look forward to.

The producers have confirmed to ITFN, the Irish Television & Film Network, that new episodes will begin shooting this fall in Dublin and London, and yes, Michael Kitchen will be back in the title role of Detective Chief Superintendent Christopher Foyle. It is also likely that Honeysuckle Weeks will reprise her role as Samantha Stewart.

No word yet on when the new series will complete production, or when it will air in the U.K. and U.S., so stay tuned for updates.

Beloved Irish Author Maeve Binchy Dies at 72

Ms. Binchy, author of Circle of Friends, Tara Road, How About You (which were adapted for the big screen), and numerous other titles that together sold more than 40 million copies worldwide, died at the age of 72 on July 30 in Dublin after a brief illness.

The film adaptation of Circle of Friends, a story about young friends and young love set in and around Dublin, was released in 1995 and starred Minnie Driver and Chris O’Donnell as soul mates Benny and Jack.

The movie version of Tara Road was released in 2005 and starred Andie MacDowell as Marilyn and Olivia Williams as Ria, two women on both sides of the Atlantic (U.S. and Ireland) who swap homes to help themselves heal their respective grief.

And How About You, a comedy-drama set in a retirement home in the Irish countryside, was released in 2007. Its cast included Hayley Atwell, Orla Brady, and several film veterans, including Joss Ackland, Vanessa Redgrave, Brenda Fricker, and Imelda Staunton.

May Maeve Binchy rest in peace.

Learn English with Ricky Gervais

That’s the title of Ricky Gervais’ new internet show. He recently completed editing the pilot episode, and will make it available for free once it goes live. Whether we’ll have to pay for future episodes is still up in the air, but if we do, “it will still only be a couple of quid,” according to Ricky. Assuming he doesn’t put regional restrictions on it the way networks do with their online programs, we should be able to check it out here in the States.

Update: A preview of Learn English with Rocky Gervais is now up on YouTube, and the entire pilot episode will be available for free on iTunes on August 14.
