Yaga is a new eight-episode, half-hour, mystery-thriller drama series that reimagines the myth of Baba Yaga.

If you’re like me and wondering, “What’s the myth of Baba Yaga,” here’s what a Wikipedia contributor offered up:

“Baba Yaga is a female character (or one of a trio of sisters of the same name) from Slavic folklore who has two contrasting roles. In some narratives, she is described as a repulsive or ferocious-looking old woman who fries and eats children, while in others she is depicted as a nice old woman who helps the hero. Both versions often depict her as a witch.” — Wikipedia

So… maybe her?

Or her?

Anyhoo, Yaga follows Rapp (Noah Reid, Schitt’s Creek, The Vampire Lestat), a private investigator, who arrives in the small coastal town of Whittock to investigate the disappearance of Henry Park (Hudson Williams, Heated Rivalry), a young heir to a powerful fishery. Rapp soon finds himself at odds with apprehensive local detective Carson (Clark Backo, Venom: The Last Dance, Letterkenny) and charismatic university professor Katherine (Carrie-Anne Moss, “Matrix” films, Memento), who has a taste for younger men. Add to that a labyrinth of enigmatic suspects, secret lives, and ancient magic, and Rapp has his work cut out for him.

Additional cast includes Sheila McCarthy (Orphan Black), Megan Follows (The Way Home), Ezra Franky (Untamed), Patrick Gilmore (Travelers), Katharine Isabelle (The Order), and Hiro Kanagawa (Shōgun), along with Emilija Baranac (The Midnight Club), Georgia Acken (Under the Bridge), Anisa Harris (Yellowjackets), and Sam Krochmal (Voicemails for Isabelle).

Yaga premieres in the US with two episodes on Friday, October 23, exclusively on AMC+. New episodes will drop on Fridays through the two-episode finale on Friday, November 27.

If you’d like to watch Yaga before its US streaming premiere, head to the 2026 Toronto International Film Festival, where the series has its world premiere on Thursday, September 17, or to New York Comic Con, where it will screen on Friday, October 9.

Based on the hit play by Kat Sandler, who also serves as writer, showrunner, and executive producer, Yaga, a Crave Original, is produced by Blink49 Studios and Front Street Pictures in association with Bell Media, with the participation of the Canada Media Fund, the Rogers Series Fund, and the Bell Fund. David Frazee and Rachel Talalay serve as co-directors; Mackenzie Donaldson, Andrew Miller, and Carrie-Anne Moss are executive producers; and Charles Cooper is producer. It is distributed internationally by Sphere Abacus, a Bell Media company.
