Ovation TV has announced the US premiere date for the milestone twentieth season of the hit Canadian period mystery series Murdoch Mysteries.
Twenty seasons for any series is quite an achievement, so hooray that Murdoch Mysteries continues to tell clever and engaging whodunit stories that bring viewers back week after week, for more than 300 episodes now!
Starring Yannick Bisson (“Aurora Teagarden Mystery” movies) as Detective William Murdoch, the series follows Murdoch and his police colleagues at Station House No. 4 in early 20th-century Toronto, as he pioneers innovative forensic techniques to solve some of the city’s most gruesome murders.
Season 20, which consists of 21 episodes, opens with an unexpected international adventure: Murdoch diverts his travels to Malta, where mystery author Nigella Fletcher (guest star Sally Lindsay, The Madame Blanc Mysteries, Scott & Bailey) awaits execution for murdering her husband. Questioning the seemingly open-and-shut case, Murdoch uncovers a connection to a stolen priceless tapestry, a centuries-old treasure map, and a mystery that sends him in pursuit of both a fugitive and the truth.
Murdoch Mysteries: Season 20 premieres in the US on Monday, October 5, at 8pm ET, on Ovation TV.
The returning cast also includes Thomas Craig (Coronation Street) as Chief Inspector Thomas Brackenreid, Lachlan Murdoch (Copper) as Constable Henry Higgins, Kataem O’Connor (Heartland) as Constable Teddy Roberts, Daniel Maslany (Hudson & Rex) as Detective Llewellyn Watts, Shanice Banton (Private Eyes) as Chief Coroner Violet Hart, Paul Sun-Hyung Lee (Kim’s Convenience, Avatar: The Last Airbender, The Mandalorian) as Inspector Albert Choi, Arwen Humphreys (Hudson & Rex) as Margaret Brackenreid, and Clare McConnell (Children Ruin Everything) as Crown Attorney Effie Newsome.
In addition to Sally Lindsay, guest stars this season include Jason Mewes (“Clerks” films), Yanic Truesdale (Gilmore Girls), Ennis Esmer (Blindspot), James Chatto (Wayward), Emma Slater (Mamma Mia!), Kristian Bruun (The Recruit), and Hamza Haq (Transplant).
Murdoch Mysteries, based on Maureen Jennings’s popular “Detective Murdoch” series of novels, premiered in Canada in January 2008. It is executive produced by Christina Jennings, Scott Garvie, Yannick Bisson, Simon McNabb, and Peter Mitchell, who also serves as showrunner, and produced by Jeremy Hood.
