Fans of We Are Lady Parts, rejoice! This excellent comedy series is finally returning with its second season. Hooray!
Today’s announcement from Peacock and Channel 4 about the return of We Are Lady Parts had me doing a happy dance in my chair, making my day and probably the same for the show’s legions of fans on both sides of the pond.
If you’re not familiar with We Are Lady Parts, which is hilarious, this critically-acclaimed, fan-favorite, BAFTA, Peabody, and Royal Television Society Awards-winning series follows the members of Lady Parts, a punk band made up of all Muslim women. (Trailer is from Season 1)
All of the lead cast are back for Season 2, including Anjana Vasan (Killing Eve, Black Mirror) as Amina Hussain, who, in Season 1, was recruited to be the unlikely lead guitarist of Lady Parts; Sarah Kameela Impey (Vera, Halcyon Heights) as Saira, the band’s leader, main singer, and rhythm guitar player; Juliette Motamed (Halo, Magic Mike’s Last Dance) as drummer Ayesha; Faith Omole (An Ideal Husband, Endeavour) as bass player Bisma; and Lucie Shorthouse (Rebus, Henpocalypse!) as band manager Momtaz.
Also returning are series regulars Aiysha Hart (A Discovery of Witches), Zaqi Ismail (Britannia), and Shobu Kapoor (DI Ray).
The second season features cameos from Malala Yousafzai, education activist and co-founder of the Malala fund, and comedy legend Meera Syal (The Kumars at No. 42, Goodness Gracious Me).
Following on from the events in Season 1 and off-screen happenings, the new season finds the band back home in London, with a renewed artistic mission after the high of their first UK tour, only to find that a rival band is threatening their delicate status quo. As the reality of chasing success sets in, Lady Parts embarks on recording their first album, juggling personal ambitions, and deciding whether “making it big” is really what they wanted.
We Are Lady Parts: Season 2, a Peacock Original, premieres in the US as a six-episode binge on Thursday, May 30, exclusively on Peacock. It premieres in the UK on the same date on Channel 4.
Created, written, directed, and executive produced by multi-award winner Nida Manzoor (Polite Society), the series is produced by Working Title Television, part of Universal International Studios, a division of Universal Studio Group, and distributed by NBCUniversal Global TV Distribution. The executive producers are Surian Fletcher-Jones, Tim Bevan, and Eric Fellner for Working Title Television, with John Pocock as producer. It was commissioned for Channel 4 by Head of Comedy Charlie Perkins and Commissioning Editor Laura Riseam.
