Brit TV fans just can’t get enough of Michael Kitchen as Christopher Foyle, so word that he is starring in another series of Foyle’s War is fabulous news indeed!
Former police detective and now MI-5 Senior Intelligence Officer Christopher Foyle will be drawn further into the world of Cold War espionage when Michael Kitchen (To Play the King) reprises his role for the award-winning drama Foyle’s War.
The three new feature-length episodes are based in Liverpool, Chester and Manchester, where filming has begun and will continue through April 2014.
Created and written by novelist and screenwriter Anthony Horowitz, the upcoming Foyle’s War stories will be inspired by real events, including American and German businesses accused of fueling Hitler’s War Machine, tangled promises made to the Jews regarding the creation of a state of Israel in British Palestine, the Black Market in Great Britain, and operations conducted by the British Special Operations Executive during the war.
Returning cast members include Honeysuckle Weeks (The Wicker Tree) as Foyle’s former driver and now fellow MI-5 operative Samantha Stewart; Daniel Weyman (Great Expectations) as Sam’s husband, MP Adam Wainwright; Ellie Haddington (Spies of Warsaw) as Special Operations Executive Hilda Pierce, Tim McMullan (Parade’s End) as senior MI-5 member Arthur Valentine, and Rupert Vansittart (Heartbeat) as Foyle’s boss, Sir Alec Myerson.
Guest starring in the new series of Foyle’s War are two-time Emmy® and Golden Globe® Nominee John Mahoney (Frasier), Richard Lintern (The Shadow Line), Nigel Lindsay (Clatterford), Jaime Winstone (Dead Set), and William Postlethwaite (The Suspicions of Mr Whicher).
Additional cast members include Alexander Arnold (Skins), Joseph Drake (Ripper Street), Finbar Lynch (Breathless), Neil Fitzmaurice (Mount Pleasant), Amber Rose Revah (The Bible), Amanda Lawrence (Above Suspicion), Hermione Gulliford (Inspector Lewis), and John Heffernan (Love and Marriage).
Eleventh Hour Films is producing the new series for ITV and Acorn Productions. John Chapman (Cracker) serves as producer, Jill Green (Injustice) and Nicole Finnan (Mistresses) as executive producers, and Stuart Orme (Jack Taylor) and Andy Hay (New Tricks), both of whom have directed episodes of Foyle’s War, return to direct this series.
Series 9 (Series 8 in the US) of Foyle’s War is slated to debut in the UK on ITV next year. If its US premiere has the same arrangement as the last series, then its broadcast debut will be on PBS, followed by streaming on Acorn TV the next day, also in 2015.
