Acorn TV and ZDF announced today the start of production on Season 2 of The Chelsea Detective (yay!), with lead Adrian Scarborough joined by new co-lead Vanessa Emme.
Production is underway in and around London on the second season of fan-favorite mystery drama The Chelsea Detective, with series lead Adrian Scarborough (Killing Eve, 1917, Sanditon) returning as Detective Inspector Max Arnold alongside new co-lead Vanessa Emme (Dublin Murders, Three Families) as the sharp, diligent Detective Sergeant Layla Walsh.
Adrian Scarborough commented:
“It’s great to be back, returning to my role as DI Arnold. Max and the team are resuming investigations in Chelsea with new stories set to intrigue and entertain. It’s also my great pleasure to welcome Vanessa Emme to the station. She’s a terrific addition to our cast and it’s a joy to be working alongside her.”

Season 2 of the hit detective drama finds DI Max Arnold (Scarborough) and the team at Chelsea CID — including Chief Forensics Officer Ashley Wilton (Sophie Stone, Shetland), tech specialist DC Jess Lombard (Lucy Phelps, Call the Midwife), and junior detective DC Connor Pollock (Peter Bankole, Peaky Blinders) — confronted with four new mysteries. Joining them from Exeter is Detective Sergeant Layla Walsh (Emme), an outsider who rolls her eyes at the worst excesses of Chelsea but who also loves her job and brings a direct “let’s go!” energy to the team. Layla speaks her mind and isn’t afraid to be forthright in her questioning, whether of a person of interest or how the team investigates their cases — such as the ones involving the art world, luxury retirement living, rowing, psychotherapy, tailoring, and dating, that they delve into in the new season.
Also returning for Season 2 are Anamaria Marinca (The Politician’s Husband, The Last Enemy) as Astrid, an art dealer and Max’s wife, from whom he is separated, and Frances Barber (Whitstable Pearl, Doctor Who) as his Aunt Olivia.
Created and executive produced by Emmy® Award-winning Peter Fincham (The Lost Prince, Smack the Pony, I’m Alan Partridge), the four feature-length episodes are written by Glen Laker (Vera, Prime Suspect), Peter Fincham, Liz Lake (Riviera, Call the Midwife), and Laura Poliakoff (Devils). The series producer is Ella Kelly (Death in Paradise, Midsomer Murders). The directors are Richard Signy (Death in Paradise, Silent Witness) and Sarah Esdaile (Call the Midwife). The series is produced by Acorn TV’s Acorn Media Enterprises, Germany’s ZDF, and BBC Studios-invested indie Expectation.
