The date has been set for the US premiere of Patience, a new UK mystery-crime drama series.

For folks who don’t do subtitles, this one is for you.
The British show Patience is adapted from the French mystery-crime drama series Astrid (#ad), which has been a veritable hit with viewers on both sides of the pond.
Patience stars Laura Fraser (Traces, Crime) as Detective Bea Metcalf and Ella Maisy Purvis (A Kind of Spark, Heartstopper) as Patience Evans, an autistic police archivist. (Purvis herself was diagnosed as autistic when she was a teen.) The series follows this unlikely yet effective crime-fighting duo as they investigate cases in the historic city of York.
The neurodivergent Patience works at the Criminal Records Office of the Yorkshire Police, where she catalogs and files the evidence produced during major cases. She craves routine and order, and relishes the solitude and structure her job provides. She is also brilliant. A self-taught criminologist with an instinctive eye for crime scenes and a passion for problem-solving, Patience has an extraordinary ability to make connections that others miss.
Detective Metcalf is the first person to spot Patience’s talent and believes the archivist could be an asset to her team in solving criminal cases. This opens a door into a whole new world for Patience, who also attends a regular support group for autistic adults, where they discuss their problems operating in a neurotypical world and how best to navigate it. As they work together, Bea gains a deeper understanding of Patience’s past and the challenges she faces, and the two women form an unexpected bond.
Patience premieres in the US on Sunday, June 15, at 8pm ET, on PBS, with streaming available on PBS.org, the PBS app, and the PBS Masterpiece Prime Video Channel (#ad). New episodes will drop weekly on Sundays through July 20. (You can add it to your streaming watchlist now.)
Costars in the six-episode season include Nathan Welsh (Shetland), Mark Benton (Shakespeare & Hathaway: Private Investigators), Ali Ariaie (The Great), Tom Lewis (Gentleman Jack), Liza Sadovy (A Small Light), Adrian Rawlins (Unforgotten), and Jamie Maclachlan (Professor T), amongst others. In addition to Ella Maisy Purvis, all other neurodivergent characters in the series are played by neurodiverse actors.
The series is directed by Maarten Moerkerke (Professor T), and written by Matt Baker (Hotel Portofino, Professor T), Stephen Brady (Professor T), Sarah Freethy (The Food Hospital), and Daniella DeVinter (Before We Die), all of whom have personal experience relating to autism.
