Today Prime Video released the official teaser for Three Pines, a new Canadian mystery-crime drama series starring Alfred Molina. Check it out. (It looks good!)
Avid readers of Louise Penny’s best-selling and award-winning “Chief Inspector Armand Gamache Mystery” crime novel series (of which I count myself amongst them) will immediately recognize “Three Pines,” as it is the name of the seemingly idyllic Québecois village where she sets her page-turner detective stories. Viewers may also recall the 2013 telefilm Still Life: A Three Pines Mystery, the first television adaptation of any of Louise Penny’s works, which is based on the first novel.
Arriving in December 2022 is Three Pines, a new eight-episode, hour-long series based on the “Armand Gamache” books. It stars two-time Primetime Emmy® Awards and three-time BAFTA Awards nominee Alfred Molina (Feud, The Normal Heart, An Education) as Chief Inspector Armand Gamache. Gamache, a veteran detective with the Sûreté du Québec, is a man who sees things that others do not: the light between the cracks, the mythic in the mundane, and the evil in the seemingly ordinary. As he investigates a spate of murders in Three Pines, he discovers long-buried secrets — and faces a few of his own ghosts.
The cast includes Rossif Sutherland (Reign), Elle-Máijá Tailfeathers (Blood Quantum), Tantoo Cardinal (Stumptown), Clare Coulter (Helix), Sarah Booth (Murdoch Mysteries), Anna Tierney (Deceit), Julian Bailey (Transplant), Frédéric-Antoine Guimond (District 31), Pierre Simpson (Transplant), Marie-France Lambert (Victor Lessard), Frank Schorpion (Bad Blood), Marcel Jeannin (19-2), Georgina Lightning (Blackstone), Crystle Lightning (Trickster), Isabel Deroy-Olson (Shadow of the Rougarou), and Anna Lambe (Trickster).
Three Pines will launch in December 2022 exclusively on Prime Video in Canada, the US, UK, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, and Greenland. The specific date hasn’t been announced yet, but you can add the series to your stuff now.
Filmed in Montreal and rural Quebec, Three Pines is from Amazon Studios and is produced by Left Bank Pictures (The Crown, Outlander). The series is executive produced by Andy Harries, Sharon Hughff, and John Phillips for Left Bank Pictures. Sam Donovan, Emilia di Girolamo, and Alfred Molina also serve as executive producers. The series is written by lead writer Emilia di Girolamo (The Tunnel, Law & Order: UK) and Catherine Tregenna (DCI Banks, Inspector Lewis). The directors are lead director Sam Donovan (Last Tango in Halifax), Tracey Deer (Mohawk Girls), and Daniel Grou (Cardinal). John Griffin (Baptiste) is the producer.
Stay tuned for updates.
