AMC+ announced today its acquisition of Anne Boleyn, the historical-psychological thriller limited series starring Jodie Turner-Smith in the title role.
The three-part Anne Boleyn explores the final months of Anne Boleyn’s life from the eponymous Queen’s perspective, as she struggles to secure a future for her daughter and to challenge the powerful patriarchy closing in around her. It depicts the key moments that cause Anne to topple, unpicking her immense strength, her fatal vulnerabilities, and her determination to be an equal among men.
Jodie Turner-Smith (Queen & Slim, Without Remorse) stars as Anne Boleyn. Costars include Emmy® and BAFTA® Awards nominee Paapa Essiedu (I May Destroy You, Gangs of London) as George Boleyn, Anne’s brother and Tudor nobleman; Mark Stanley (Criminal: UK, Game of Thrones) as King Henry VIII; and Lola Petticrew (Bloodlands) as Jane Seymour, Anne’s love rival.
The ensemble cast also features Barry Ward (White Lines, Des) as Thomas Cromwell, King Henry VIII’s closest and most powerful advisor; Jamael Westman (West End’s Hamilton) as Jane Seymour’s ambitious brother, Edward; Amanda Burton (Marcella, Silent Witness) as stoic governess Lady Anne Shelton; and Thalissa Teixeira (Ragdoll, Too Close) as Anne’s loyal confidante and cousin, Madge Shelton.
Said Courtney Thomasma, General Manager for AMC+:
