Today Netflix dropped the teaser trailer and announced the release date for its new kids-and-family holiday film A Boy Called Christmas.
Adapted from the best-selling book A Boy Called Christmas, the first of five titles in Matt Haig’s acclaimed novel series, the live-action film A Boy Called Christmas tells the origin story of Father Christmas.
In the tale, an ordinary young boy called Nikolas sets out on an extraordinary adventure into the snowy north in search of his father, who is on a quest to discover Elfhelm, the fabled village of the elves. Taking with him a headstrong reindeer called Blitzen and a loyal pet mouse, Nikolas soon meets his destiny in this magical, comic, and endearing story that proves nothing is impossible.
A Boy Called Christmas features an all-star cast that includes newcomer Henry Lawfull, Toby Jones (Infamous, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy), Sally Hawkins (The Shape of Water, Paddington 1 & 2), Kristen Wiig (Bridesmaids, Wonder Woman 1984), Michiel Huisman (The Haunting of Hill House, The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society), Zoe Colletti (Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark), Stephen Merchant (Jojo Rabbit, Fighting With My Family) Jim Broadbent (Paddington 1 & 2, The Iron Lady), Maggie Smith (Downton Abbey, Harry Potter), Indica Watson (Gold Digger, Radioactive), and Rune Temte (Captain Marvel, The Last Kingdom).
Directed by Academy Award® nominee Gil Kenan (Monster House), the film is produced by StudioCanal with Graham Broadbent and Pete Czernin of Blueprint Pictures. Ol Parker (Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel) and Gil Kenan adapted the screenplay from Matt Haig’s book. The Academy Award® winning team at Framestore (Christopher Robin, Fantastic Beasts, Paddington 1 & 2, The Golden Compass) provided the visual effects for the film, and the Production Designer was Gary Williamson (Paddington 1 & 2). The film was shot on location in Lapland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, and London.
