Netflix has released the first image of Olivia Colman as Queen Elizabeth II in the upcoming third season of The Crown.
Olivia Colman (Broadchurch, The Night Manager) will play Her Royal Highness is Seasons 3 and 4 of the Primetime Emmy®, Golden Globe®, and BAFTA Awards-winning drama The Crown., taking over the role played by Claire Foy in the first two seasons.
Foy recently received her second Best Actress Emmy nomination for her critically-acclaimed performance as the young monarch. The series garnered 13 Emmy nominations for the 2018 awards, including for Best Drama as well as for Matt Smith and Vanessa Kirby in the Best Supporting Actor and Actress categories.
Tobias Menzies (Outlander) takes over for Matt Smith as Prince Philip, Helena Bonham Carter (The King’s Speech) for Vanessa Kirby as Princess Margaret, and Ben Daniels (Law & Order: UK) for Matthew Goode as Antony Armstrong-Jones in the third and fourth seasons.
Season 3, which covers the period from 1964 through the early 1970s, is currently in production and expected to debut next year.
