If you don’t already know about Viewster for streaming TV series and films from the UK and elsewhere, then it’s time to add it to your list of free VoD services.
Headquartered in Zurich, Switzerland, Viewster is a free video-on-demand service available in more than 100 territories, including the US and UK. Its content includes films and TV series from the UK, Ireland, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the US, and other countries in Europe, Latin America, and Asia.
British and Irish TV-wise, the advertising-supported Viewster has content that overlaps with Hulu in the US, including comedy and drama series Amber, Clone, Grease Monkeys, Merlin, Monday Monday, Pulling, Run, That Mitchell and Webb Look, and Trinity, amongst others.
However, Viewster does have some series that no other VoD service in the US has right now, such as The Clinic, Modern Toss, and The Hidden City.
The Clinic is an Irish drama centered on the staff of the fictional Clarence Street Clinic in Dublin. The proverb “Physician, heal thyself” should be the mantra here, as the staffers could use as much healing for their issues as the patients do for their ailments.
The ensemble cast features David Wilmot (Ripper Street) and Aisling O’Sullivan (Raw) as Drs. Ed and Cathy Costello, the husband-and-wife co-owners of the clinic; Dominic Mafham (The Ambassador) as plastic surgeon Dan Woodhouse; Gary Lydon (War Horse) as counselor Patrick Murray; Amy Huberman (George Gently) as receptionist Daisy O’Callaghan; and Rachael Pilkington (Fair City) as physiotherapist Keelin Geraghty, amongst others.
The first two of The Clinic‘s seven series are currently available for streaming at Viewster in the US. (It is not available in the UK.)
Modern Toss is the part-animation/part-live action comedy series that screened on Channel 4 in the UK and IFC in the US roughly a decade ago, and has since became a cult classic. Known for its badly-drawn characters (such as Mr. Tourette and Gnat Burglar), potty-mouthed dialogue, and outrageous humor, Modern Toss features the talents of Mackenzie Crook (The Office), Ralph Brown (Nighty Night), and Paul Kaye (Game of Thrones), and is available on Viewster in the US, not in the UK.
And The Hidden City is a dark, gritty, disturbing British drama that follows a group of youths who take to living on the streets of London in a makeshift refuge called “The Hidden City” to escape abuse, abandonment, and neglect. Paul Barber (Only Fools and Horses) stars in and serves as the narrator of the 21-episode series, which also co-stars Karl Davies (Happy Valley), Richard Harrington (Hinterland), and Ashley Walters (Top Boy). The Hidden City is available on Viewster in the US and UK.
You can watch Viewster content online at the Viewster website and YouTube channel; on telly via the Roku, most smart TVs, and internet-connected Blu-ray players; and on iOS and Android devices with the Viewster mobile apps.
