It’s been three years since we’ve seen DCS Christopher Foyle (Michael Kitchen), and the wait for his return will soon be over. The new season of Foyle’s War returns to MASTERPIECE MYSTERY! on PBS starting 15 September 2013. (Yay!)

In advance of the new season premiere, PBS is debuting Inside Foyle’s War, a behind-the-scenes look at the highly-acclaimed and award-winning program that’s been a viewer favorite since it first aired on ITV in 2002 and PBS in 2003.

Inside Foyle’s War features a recap of the first six seasons as well as favorite moments from the series, and includes interviews with writer Anthony Horowitz (Poirot, Midsomer Murders, the Alex Rider book series), executive producer Jill Green, director Stuart Orm, historians, and costars Honeysuckle Weeks, Anthony Howell, and Daniel Weyman.

The special also gives viewers the inside scoop on the creation of the compelling, character-driven murder mystery series, the decision to set it during World War II, the extensive research done to ensure historical accuracy in each episode, the casting of Michael Kitchen as DCS Foyle, and the casting and progression of Sam Stewart, played by Honeysuckle Weeks. It also reveals secrets about Foyle’s transition to the Cold War and intelligence gathering in the new episodes, along with much more.

Foyle’s War stars Michael Kitchen as DCS Christopher Foyle, a laconic World War I veteran who serves as detective chief superintendent in the English town of Hastings. As World War II rages, Foyle investigates crimes on the home front, exposing the ravages of war on his once-quiet coastal community. After the war, he joins the intelligence community as the Cold War begins.

Guest stars on Foyle’s Warinclude Julian Ovenden (The Forsyte Saga) as Foyle’s son, as well as Robert Hardy (All Creatures Great and Small), Charles Dance (Game of Thrones), Rosamund Pike (Jack Reacher), David Tennant (Doctor Who), and James McAvoy (X-Men First Class).

Inside Foyle’s War is hosted by Len Cariou (you might know him from Blue Bloods, Damages, and Murder: She Wrote), and is part of special programming debuting on PBS stations beginning 3 August 2013. Dates and times for Inside Foyle’s War may vary from station to station, so check your local listings.
