Acorn TV announced today the premiere date for Season 3 of its fan-favorite Original mystery-crime drama series, Dalgliesh, starring Bertie Carvel. (Yay!)
Every week should start with this kind of news!
The third season of Dalgliesh brings SAG® Award-nominee Bertie Carvel (The Crown, Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell) back to our screens as the titular enigmatic investigator, DCI Adam Dalgliesh.
The six-episode new season includes three two-part stories — “Death in Holy Orders,” “Cover Her Face,” and “Devices and Desires” — each based on the eponymous novels in English author P.D. James’s best-selling “Adam Dalgliesh” murder mystery series.
Set in 1979, on the cusp of Margaret Thatcher’s victory, Season 3 sees Dalgliesh (Carvel) take on three highly-sensitive cases, including a remote seminary already mired in scandal, a wealthy family under political attack, and a spate of killings at a nuclear power station.
Dalgliesh: Season 3, an Acorn TV Original Series, premieres in the US, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand on Monday, December 2, with “Death in Holy Orders,” exclusively on Acorn TV. The second two-parter, “Cover Her Face,” marks Carvel’s directorial debut and premieres on Monday, December 9. The season closes with “Devices and Desires,” which premieres on Monday, December 16.
Also reprising their roles in the new season are Carlyss Peer (The Crown, Doctors) as Detective Sergeant Kate Miskin and Alistair Brammer (House of the Dragon, The Watchers) as DS Daniel Tarrant.
Top-notch guest stars this season include Anton Lesser (Endeavour), Lloyd Owen (The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power), Claire Goose (Silverpoint), Liz White (The Long Shadow), Adam James (Mr Bates vs The Post Office), Richard Lintern (Silent Witness), Ellora Torchia (The Gold), Parth Thakerar (Gangs of London), Soni Razdan (War), and Josie Walker (Belfast).
Acclaimed screenwriter and playwright Helen Edmundson (The Suspicions of Mr Whicher, An Inspector Calls, Small Island) returns as lead writer and executive producer for the third season, with Colette Kane (Temple, Moving On, Department Q) joining as writer for “Death in Holy Orders” and Kam Odedra (Lupin, Hijack, Whitstable Pearl) for “Cover Her Face.” Geoff Sax (Us, Endeavour, Victoria) returns to direct “Death in Holy Orders,” Bertie Carvel makes his directorial debut with “Cover Her Face,” and Roger Goldby (Belgravia: The Next Chapter, Finding Alice, The Durrells) directs “Devices and Desires.”
Leon McGeown-Fee (London Kills, Hope Street) produces the series with Elaine Pyke, Willow Grylls, and Carvel serving as Executive Producers for New Pictures. New Pictures, an All3Media company, produces the series with additional funding from Northern Ireland Screen. The series is executive produced by Catherine Mackin and Bea Tammer for Acorn TV and commissioned by Sebastian Cardwell, Deputy Chief Content Officer, UK, Paramount. All3Media International handles the series’ distribution.
