Acorn TV announced today its commissioning of a third season of Whitstable Pearl, the popular mystery-crime drama series starring Kerry Godliman.
Based on the much-loved “Whitstable Pearl Mysteries” book series by Julie Wassmer, Series 3 of Whitstable Pearl sees the return of Kerry Godliman (After Life, Derek, Save Me, Trigger Point) in the lead role as restaurant owner and private detective Pearl Nolan and Howard Charles (The Musketeers, Top Boy, Shadow and Bone, Alex Rider) as DCI Mike McGuire.
Other cast members reprising their roles for the six-episode third season include Frances Barber (The Chelsea Detective) as Dolly, Pearl’s feisty and outspoken mum; Robert Webb (Back) as Tom Grant, Pearl’s boyfriend; Isobelle Molloy (EastEnders) as Ruby Williams, who works for Pearl at the restaurant; and Sophia del Pizzo (It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia) as DS Nikki Martel.
Said Julie Wassmer:
“I’m thrilled that Whitstable Pearl will be returning for a third season, as are those all around the world who have taken this series to their hearts – together with its magical setting. Be prepared for more edge-of-the-seat drama, intriguing cases for Pearl and McGuire to solve and perhaps the greatest mystery of all – will they finally get together?”
Kerry Godliman enthused:
“I’m so excited to once again be portraying Pearl Nolan in the third season of ‘Whitstable Pearl.’ I love playing such a rich character and can’t wait to get back to Whitstable to bring more of Julie Wassmer’s wonderful storytelling to the screen.”
Whitstable Pearl explores the dark undercurrents of murder and debauchery swirling beneath the surface of Whitstable, the picturesque 16th-century English seaside town, famous for its native oysters and buffeted by the prevailing winds and spray of the North Sea.
Series 3 sees Pearl continuing to handle the responsibilities of her restaurant while concurrently building her private detective business, for which she gets involved in more diverse investigations, including reopening an infamous local cold case and the death of a famous food critic. While Pearl is aided and abetted by Dolly, and is still going strong with Tom, it’s navigating her complex relationship with DCI Mike McGuire that still proves to be her most challenging case, as he and his partner, DS Nikki Martel, support Pearl with each of her investigations.
A production of Buccaneer (Irvine Welsh’s Crime, Marcella, The Burning Girls) and Acorn Media Enterprises (The Chelsea Detective, Keeping Faith, Under the Vines), Series 3 of Whitstable Pearl is scripted by returning writer Mike Walden (Marcella), along with Sarah Louise Hawkins (Miss Scarlet & the Duke), Joe Ainsworth (Sanditon), Ciara Conway (Holby City), and Kit Lambert (Death in Paradise).
The series producer is Debbie Pisani. Executive Producers are Tony Wood and Richard Tulk-Hart for Buccaneer, Catherine Mackin and Bea Tammer for Acorn Media Enterprises, Øystein Karlsen, Mike Walden, and Julie Wassmer. The series is distributed internationally by Cineflix Rights.
Whitstable Pearl, an Acorn TV Original Series, will begin production in Whitstable, England, in March 2024. The series will premiere in North America, New Zealand, Australia, and the UK exclusively on Acorn TV.
Stay tuned for updates.
