BBC America and Acorn TV announced today the premiere date for the brand-new unscripted series, Relative Secrets, hosted by Jane Seymour. Check out the trailer.
Reminiscent of the New Zealand series My Family Mystery, and sounding like a mashup of Dateline and Finding Your Roots, Relative Secrets is a new investigative series that’s part true-crime and part genealogy.
Hosted by Jane Seymour (Harry Wild), each episode of the four-episode series will investigate an everyday American family’s darkest mystery, aiming both to solve the mystery and explore how it shapes that family today. Seymour also oversees each investigation, which is led by archaeologist Natasha Billson (The Great British Dig).
Colorful characters, rich cultural context, and dramatic twists and turns abound in every tale, each of which connects the American family to their UK heritage. Along the way, we’ll meet charismatic heroes and terrifying villains — including a 99-year-old World War II veteran who worries his absence led to the murder of his grandmother; the daughter of a serial killer who is desperate to carve out her own identity and separate it from her father’s sordid past; a mother who abandoned her three children to start a new secret life; and a family who must confront their scandalous past while seeking the truth about their father.
Relative Secrets, an Acorn TV Original Series, premieres in the US on Monday, June 2, at 10pm ET/PT, on BBC America and Acorn TV. New episodes will drop on Mondays through June 23.
Produced by Cream Productions (The Texas Cheerleader Murder Plot, Age of Samurai) for AMC Studios, the exclusive international distributor of the series, Relative Secrets is executive produced by David Brady, Kate Harrison Karman, John Ealer, and Jane Seymour. Ealer and Series Producer Felicity Justrabo serve as series writers and directors.
