Prime Video has set the global premiere date for Last One Laughing UK, the latest local version of the popular international comedy format. Check out the trailer.
For a nation that has given us some of the most hilarious comedy series to have screened in the US and many other parts of the globe in addition to their home country, I’m amazed it’s taken so long for a British version of Last One Laughing to get made. Regardless of why the long wait, we won’t have to wait very much longer, as the series will be have its global premiere in a couple of weeks.
Last One Laughing UK follows local versions of the comedy competition format that have been produced in Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada (English- and French-language versions), Colombia, Denmark, France, Germany, Indonesia, Ireland, Italy, Mexico, Netherlands, Nigeria, Norway, Philippines, Poland, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, and Thailand — all of which are offshoots of the original Japanese series, Documental, created by and starring Hitoshi Matsumoto and owned by Yoshimoto Kogyo (now an Amazon Original series).
Hosted by Jimmy Carr alongside special guest Roisin Conaty, Last One Laughing UK will see ten British comics — Bob Mortimer, Daisy May Cooper, Harriet Kemsley, Joe Lycett, Joe Wilkinson, Judi Love, Lou Sanders, Richard Ayoade, Rob Beckett, and Sara Pascoe — use every ounce of their comedic talents to try and get their opponents to laugh without cracking up themselves.
As with the other versions, the rules of this British one are simple: Laugh and you’re out. But it’s not just their rivals that the comedians need to watch out for. The show is packed with comedy cameos, format twists, and surprises designed to lure a smile from the players (plus belly laughs from viewers).
Last One Laughing UK, an Amazon Original Series, premieres globally with the first four episodes on Thursday, March 20, exclusively on Prime Video, followed by the final two episodes on March 27.
