BritBox announced today that Cathy Tyson and Michael Smiley have joined the cast of the hit cop drama Blue Lights, whose third season is now in production.

Blue Lights, the multi-award-winning, critically-acclaimed, and fan-favorite police procedural set in Belfast, Northern Ireland, will be back for a third season with new cast members Cathy Tyson (Boiling Point, Dune: Prophecy) and Michael Smiley (Bad Sisters, Censor), as well as returning cast Siân Brooke (Trying), Martin McCann (Say Nothing), Katherine Devlin (The Day of the Jackal), Nathan Braniff, Joanne Crawford (Resistance), Andi Osho (Payback), Frank Blake (Normal People), Abigail McGibbon (The Lovers), Dearbháile McKinney (Derry Girls), and Andrea Irvine (Red Rock).
Following on from the events in the first two seasons, Season 3 finds that after two years into their jobs as response officers, Grace (Brooke), Annie (Devlin), and Tommy (Braniff) are accustomed to life under the blue lights. But their work will take them into a sinister world hidden behind the veneer of middle-class life — the world of the accountants and lawyers who facilitate organized crime. The old political and criminal order has gone and a new global gang rules Belfast, bringing danger closer to home for our officers than ever before.
Produced by Two Cities Television and co-produced by Gallagher Films for BBC iPlayer and BBC One, Blue Lights is co-created, written, and executive produced by Declan Lawn and Adam Patterson, co-created and produced by Stephen Wright of Two Cities Television, and co-created and co-produced by Louise Gallagher of Gallagher Films with support from Northern Ireland Screen. The producer for Season 3 is Amanda Black (World on Fire, Marcella, Blue Lights: Season 2).
The first three hour-long episodes will be directed by Jack Casey (Blue Lights: Season 1), while actor/director Angela Griffin (Waterloo Road) will direct the last three episodes of the six-episode season, which was commissioned by Lindsay Salt, Director of BBC Drama, and Charlotte Moore, BBC Chief Content Officer. The executive producers are Stephen Wright (Two Cities Television), Louise Gallagher (Gallagher Films), Declan Lawn, and Adam Patterson, and the executive producer for the BBC is Nick Lambon. Two Cities Television is part of the STV Studios family of production labels.
Blue Lights: Season 3 will premiere on BritBox in the United States, with Seasons 1 and 2 currently available to stream. BBC Studios will distribute Season 3 internationally, in addition to the first two seasons, which have sold to over 160 territories.
Stay tuned for updates.
