PBS has set the US premiere date for the hit dramedy series, Funny Woman, starring Gemma Arterton.
For folks in the US who couldn’t get enough of Gemma Arterton (The Kings Man, Summerland) in Funny Woman, there’s more of her on the way, as the second season of this award-winning series is soon to arrive on this side of the pond.
In Season 2 of Funny Woman, Sophie Straw (Gemma Arterton), Britain’s favorite TV comedy star, navigates her newfound fame and career, has a group of good friends, and experiences a romance full of promise with Dennis (Arsher Ali, Avenue 5, The Fear Index). However, with new opportunities come new challenges; will Sophie be able to embrace her real life and challenge outdated cultural conventions?
Funny Woman: Season 2 premieres in the US on Sunday, February 2, at 10pm ET, on PBS (check your local listings), with streaming available on PBS.org, the PBS App, PBS Passport, and the PBS Masterpiece Prime Video Channel. You can (re)watch Season 1 on all of these platforms.
The returning cast also includes Alistair Petrie (Sex Education, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story), David Threlfall (Shameless, Hot Fuzz), Rosie Cavaliero (Code 404, Jane Eyre), Alexa Davies (The Murders at White House Farm, Dead Pixels), Matthew Beard (Vienna Blood, The Imitation Game), Leo Bill (Becoming Jane, 28 Days Later), and Clare-Hope Ashitey (Top Boy, Children of Men).
New cast joining the series include Steve Zissis (The Changeling, Togetherness), Marcus Rutherford (The Wheel of Time, Obey), Tim Key (The Witchfinder, This Time with Alan Partridge), Gemma Whelan (Game of Thrones, The Tower), and Roisin Conaty (GameFace, Man Down).
Based on the novel Funny Girl by Nick Hornby, Funny Woman: Season 2 is a production of Potboiler Television and Rebel Park Productions, in association with Sky Studios. Creative Director of Comedy Anil Gupta is Executive Producer for Sky Studios, and commissioning editor is Tilusha Ghelani. Nick Hornby, Gemma Arterton, Morwenna Banks, Oliver Parker, Gail Egan, Andrea Calderwood, Jessica Parker, and Jessica Malik serve as executive producers. Ross Williams is the series producer. The series is written by multi-award-winning writer Morwenna Banks (Slow Horses) and BAFTA-winning writers Kevin Cecil (Veep) and Andy Riley (Veep). BAFTA nominee Oliver Parker directs. Funny Woman: Season 2 is distributed by NBCUniversal Global TV Distribution on behalf of Sky Studios to PBS.
