Peacock and Sky have set the premiere date for Lockerbie: A Search for Truth, a new historical drama limited series starring Colin Firth. Check out the teaser.
Lockerbie: A Search for Truth is inspired by the real-life story of the terrorist bombing of Pan Am Flight 103, which exploded 38 minutes after take-off over Lockerbie, Scotland, on December 21, 1988, killing all 259 passengers and crew, as well as 11 residents who lost their lives as the plane came down over the quiet Scottish town.
Starring in the five-part limited global event series is Academy Award®, BAFTA, Golden Globe, and SAG Award-winning actor Colin Firth (The King’s Speech, A Single Man, The Staircase), who portrays Dr Jim Swire, who tragically lost his beloved daughter, Flora, in the devastating event, and has doggedly pursued justice, along with his wife, Jane (played by Catherine McCormack, Slow Horses, Temple), ever since.
In the wake of the disaster and his daughter’s death, Dr Jim Swire is nominated spokesperson for the UK victims’ families, who have united to demand truth and justice. Traveling across continents and political divides, Jim embarks on a relentless journey that not only jeopardizes his stability, family, and life, but completely overturns his trust in the justice system. As the truth shifts under Jim’s feet, his view of the world is left forever changed.
Exploring events from the disaster and its aftermath, Lockerbie: A Search for Truth provides an intimate account of a man, a husband, and a father who risks everything in memory of his daughter and the unflinching pursuit of truth and justice.
Lockerbie: A Search for Truth, a Peacock Original, premieres in the US on Thursday, January 2, exclusively on Peacock. It debuts on the same date in the UK, Ireland, Italy, Germany, Switzerland, and Austria on Sky Atlantic and streaming service NOW.
The drama is based on the book The Lockerbie Bombing: A Father’s Search for Justice by Jim Swire and Peter Biddulph, along with multiple other sources. Costars include Rosanna Adams (Do You Remember?), Jemma Carlton (Maxine), Harry Redding (Red Rose), Sam Troughton (A Very Royal Scandal), Mark Bonner (Shetland), Ardalan Esmaili (Snabba Cash), and Selwa Jghalef (Pensive Moments).
A co-production between Carnival Films (part of Universal International Studios) and Sky Studios, it is executive produced by Gareth Neame and Nigel Marchant for Carnival Films and Sam Hoyle for Sky Studios. Executive producers are Liz Trubridge, Jim Sheridan, Kirsten Sheridan, and Oskar Slingerland, as is renowned Scottish playwright David Harrower (Blackbird, Knives in Hens), who is the lead writer. Executive producer Otto Bathurst (Peaky Blinders, The Winter King) is lead director, and Jim Loach (Save Me) also directs an episode. NBCUniversal Global TV Distribution handles international sales of the series.
