BritBox has set the US premiere date for the second season of The Responder, the gritty cop drama starring Martin Freeman.
Inspired by the real-life experiences of author, screenwriter, and former police officer Tony Schumacher, The Responder stars Martin Freeman (“The Hobbit” trilogy, Breeders, A Confession, Sherlock) as Chris Carson, a cop on the night beat in his hometown of Liverpool. Chris drives a frontline response vehicle and, night after night, faces crime, violence, and addiction on the streets while his personal demons threaten to destabilize his work, his marriage, and his mental health. Being forced to take on rookie partner Rachel Hargreaves (Adelayo Adedayo, The Capture, Timewasters, Some Girls) only adds to his unrelenting stress.
The second season picks up six months after Season 1 left off. Carson is busy trying to better himself as a police officer and as a father to his daughter, Tilly (Romi Hyland-Rylands, For Her Sins). However, the recurrent trauma of the night officer beat continues. So, in an effort to finally free himself, he seeks a day job. Meanwhile, having been dragged into the mud by her partner, Rachel is attempting to rebuild her life. She begins the season furious with Chris, but, after going on to work with a series of “normal” coppers, Rachel finds that she has more in common with her former partner than she’s perhaps willing to admit.
The Responder: Season 2, a BritBox Original, premieres in the US on Thursday, July 11, exclusively on BritBox.
Costars in the new season include MyAnna Buring (The Witcher), Emily Fairn (Mary & George), Faye McKeever (After the Flood), Adam Nagaitis (The Terror), Ian Puleston-Davies (Pennyworth), and the late Bernard Hill (Wolf Hall), amongst others.
