Africa Rising with Afua Hirsch: Seasons 1-2 (UK)

In this docuseries, journalist and broadcaster Afua Hirsch (African Renaissance) travels across Africa to meet a broad scope of young creatives who are pushing forward and reinventing the culture in Nigeria, South Africa, and Morocco. It is a side of Africa not often highlighted by the media, so Afua’s mission is to introduce artists on their own terms and in their own voice. In each country, Afua asks what it means to be a cultural creator in a fast-changing society with rapidly growing industries, such as new art forms in Morocco and music production in Nigeria.

Africa Rising with Afua Hirsch: Seasons 1-2 premieres in the US as a six-episode binge on Thursday, February 1, exclusively on BritBox.

Three Little Birds (UK)

Written by Sir Lenny Henry (Chef!, Broadchurch, The Long Song), this life-affirming drama is inspired by his mother’s stories about leaving Jamaica in the 1950s for Great Britain, which became her lifelong home and where she raised her family. The six-part drama narrates the adventures of gregarious sisters Leah (Rochelle Neil, The Nevers) and Chantrelle (Saffron Coomber, Small Axe), who hail from St Anne’s district in Jamaica, and their virtuous, bible-loving acquaintance, Hosanna (Yazmin Belo, What Just happened?) as they board a cruise ship heading for a new life in Great Britain.

Three Little Birds premieres in North America with three episodes on Thursday, February 1, exclusively on BritBox, followed by the final three episodes on February 8.

Set in the fictional, contemporary court of King Henry IX, the show sees Henry (Charles Edwards, Lord of The Rings: The Rings of Power, The Crown, Under the Vines) struggle to make changes to his life in the face of centuries of tradition and a Royal household who are fairly sure they have his best (and if not, then certainly their own) best interests at heart.

Costars include Sally Phillips (Smack the Pony), Colin Salmon (No Offence), Gina Bellman (Leverage), Annette Crosbie (One Foot in the Grave), Kara Tointon (Mr Selfridge), and Don Warrington (Death in Paradise). Henry IX premieres in the US and Canada as a three-episode binge on Monday, February 5, on Acorn TV.

Lover, Stalker, Killer (UK)

This docudrama tells the story Dave Kroupa, a guy who was recently out of a long-term relationship and eager to restart his romantic life after moving to Omaha, Nebraska. He did what a lot of people do: online dating. This should have been an opportunity for Dave, a hard-working, devoted dad, to enjoy a bit of casual romance, but it turned into a twisted love triangle, putting him and everyone he cared about at risk.

Using interviews with those involved — including the law enforcement officers who cracked the case — alongside vivid reenactments that bring viewers into the tension and paranoia of Dave’s four-year nightmare, this feature documentary reveals a mind-bending true tale of harassment, digital deception, and murder in America’s heartland.
