Stateside fans of The Tourist, rejoice! Netflix announced today that the Jamie Dornan-led series, including the Season 2 debut, is headed to the streamer in the US.
So, with programmers cutting costs like nobody’s business, including not renewing some of their own shows or picking up new seasons of acquired titles, it’s nice to see that other programmers are stepping in to fill some of the void.
Such is the case with the mystery thriller series The Tourist, created and written by Primetime Emmy® winners Harry and Jack Williams (The Missing, Baptiste), and starring BAFTA nominee Jamie Dornan (The Fall, Belfast). The first season premiered in the US in March 2022 on HBO Max, now Max. Since then, Max has opted not to pick up Season 2 and to remove the title from its streaming offerings altogether.
Enter Netflix, which has acquired both seasons of The Tourist for the US.
Netflix will release Season 1 of The Tourist on February 1, 2024. In it, “The Man” (Dornan), a Brit, finds himself in the heart of the Australian Outback being pursued by a vast tank truck trying to drive him off the road. Later, after an epic cat-and-mouse chase, The Man awakens in the hospital, hurt but alive — and with no idea about who he is. With merciless figures from his past pursuing him, The Man must use a few clues to discover his identity before his past catches up with him.
The Tourist: Season 2 premieres in the US on February 29, 2024, exclusively on Netflix. This season moves the action to Ireland and finds Elliot (Dornan) and Helen (Danielle Macdonald, Unbelievable, Dumplin’) confronted by both friends and foes. As they attempt to uncover the secrets of Elliot’s past, they are dragged into a longstanding family feud where they face the dangerous consequences of his past actions.
You can add a reminder for both seasons now.
(For folks in the UK, Season 2 premieres on BBC One on New Year’s Day at 9 PM GMT.)
