Disney+ has released first-look photos from its new Original action-adventure fantasy drama series Renegade Nell.
Created and written by BAFTA Awards winner Sally Wainwright (Happy Valley, Last Tango in Halifax, Gentleman Jack), Renegade Nell follows the story of Nell (Louisa Harland, Derry Girls, Finding Joy), a quick-witted and courageous young woman who finds herself framed for murder and unexpectedly becomes the most notorious highwaywoman in 18th Century England. But when a magical spirit called Billy Blind (Nick Mohammed, Ted Lasso, Intelligence) appears, Nell realizes her destiny is bigger than she ever imagined.
The cast of the eight-episode action-adventure fantasy series also includes:
- Frank Dillane (The Essex Serpent, Fear the Walking Dead) as Nell’s fickle friend and sometime adversary Charles Devereux, a charming rogue with a dangerous, villainous alter ego.
- Adrian Lester (Riviera, Hustle) as the Earl of Poynton, a master political schemer and manipulator who joins forces against Nell with Sofia Wilmot, played by Alice Kremelberg (The Sinner, Orange Is the New Black), a young widow who wants power and independence at any cost.
- Joely Richardson (Nip/Tuck, Suspect) as eccentric newspaper magnate Lady Eularia Moggerhanger.
- Pip Torrens (The Crown, Poldark) as Lord Blancheford, the father of Sofia and her feckless, bullying brother Thomas, played by Jake Dunn (Half Bad, The Bastard Son & the Devil Himself).
- Ényì Okoronkwo (The Lazarus Project, Giri/Haji) as Rasselas, a spirited stable boy who joins Nell and her sisters on the run in his own bid for freedom.
- Craig Parkinson (Line of Duty, Mrs Sidhu Investigates) as Nell’s kindhearted father, Sam.
- Newcomers Bo Bragason and Florence Keen as Nell’s younger sisters, Roxy and George.
Produced by Lookout Point as a Disney+ UK original series, Renegade Nell is directed by Ben Taylor (Sex Education, Catastrophe) as well as Amanda Brotchie (Gentleman Jack) and MJ Delaney (Ted Lasso). Jon Jennings is Series Producer and Stella Merz is Producer. Renegade Nell will premiere globally in spring 2024 exclusively on Disney+.
