Fans of Shakespeare and The Hollow Crown, rejoice! BBC Two has announced its commission of the Bard-based follow-up, The Hollow Crown: The Wars Of The Roses.
I don’t know about you, but I have been hoping for a “sequel” ever since I watched (and re-watehed) the BAFTA Award-winning The Hollow Crown when it debuted last year. Each of the four films was breathtaking, so I am over the moon from the news about The Hollow Crown: The Wars Of The Roses.
The Hollow Crown: The Wars Of The Roses will consist of three filmed adaptations of Shakespeare’s tetralogy of works that cover the Wars of the Roses saga: Henry VI (its three parts to be delivered in two films) and Richard III.
Some members of the cast have been announced as well. Here’s what we know so far:
Henry VI, Part 1
Hugh Bonneville (Downton Abbey) as Humphrey, Duke of Gloucester
Sally Hawkins (Jane Eyre) as Eleanor, Duchess of Gloucester
Sophie Okonedo (The Escape Artist) as Queen Margaret
Tom Sturridge (Pirate Radio) as Henry VI
Henry VI, Part 2
Keeley Hawes (Line of Duty) as Queen Elizabeth
Sophie Okonedo (The Escape Artist) as Queen Margaret

Richard III
Benedict Cumberbatch (Sherlock) as Richard III
Judi Dench (Philomena) as Cecily, Duchess of York

The Hollow Crown: The Wars Of The Roses is a co-production of Neal Street Productions with Carnival Films / NBCUniversal and Thirteen.
