With the unofficial start of summer comes news that the chart-topping English-Irish boy band, One Direction, could be headed from the concert stage to the small screen in their own television series.

The multi-award-winning 1D boys — Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, Liam Payne, Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinson — have already starred in a hit 3D documentary concert film (One Direction: This is Us), and are reportedly in talks to star in a comedy-music series.

While it hasn’t been commissioned yet, the UK’s Daily Star reports that insiders are working on the proposal for a pilot, which could come as early as next spring.

According to a source close to the band, the concept is a sitcom featuring the 1D band mates living by the beach in Los Angeles and “solving problems for pals.” These mates could be the guest cameos also mentioned by the source. And, of course, the series will include One Direction’s music.

(I admit that I know little about One Direction, but a TV series could be cool. For those who are old enough to remember it, this reminds me of The Monkees.)

And they’re not stopping with television. In addition to the series, animated films (à la The Beatles’ Yellow Submarine) and a sequel to 1D’s 3D movie are also in the works, although the band’s rep at Columbia Records has denied the latter.

The band is currently on its Where We Are 2014 concert tour.
