It’s time to bust open your piggy banks and break out the dollars and pence, because art cards by Sherlock and Prince Hal, a.k.a. Benedict Cumberbatch and Tom Hiddleston, went up for auction today.

They ply their craft on stage, film, and telly, and now they have channeled another aspect of their inner artist onto paper. They, of course, are Mr. Cheekbones himself, Benedict Cumberbatch (Star Trek Into Darkness), and he-whose-sparkly-eyes-and-smile-could-launch-a-thousand-ships Tom Hiddleston (Thor).
Cards with original artwork created and signed by the two actors, along with those by Arthur Darvill (Doctor Who), Karl Pilkington (Derek), Joseph Fiennes (FlashForward), Alison Steadman (Gavin & Stacey), and other British celebs and artists, are now up for bids in the Cards for Keeps 2014 campaign set up by Stampin’ Up! UK to raise funds for Coram, the UK’s oldest children’s charity.
As of this writing, Hiddleston’s double-signatured “Love Your Life” card (below) has the highest number of bids (41) and the highest bid amount (£805.00, or approximately $1,365).
Gaining quickly is Cumberbatch’s bird-design and quotes-filled card, for which £620.00 (roughly $1055) is currently the highest of 39 bids. (The three quotes: “I know nothing with any certainty, but the sight of the stars makes me dream” from Vincent Van Gogh, “Ah, but a man’s reach should exceed his grasp or what’s a heaven for?” from Robert Browning, and “Every child begins the world again” from Henry David Thoreau.)
The 10-day auction began today and all proceeds raised will be donated to Coram, so get your bid(s) in, and good luck!
