What a fantastic way to kick off the weekend! We now have the way-cooler-than-bow-ties Doctor Who 50th Anniversary episode poster and an oh-my-gawd-I-can’t-wait-to-watch-it title: “The Day of the Doctor.”

As of today, there are 71 days to go until “The Day of the Doctor premieres. (To Whovians such as myself, it feels like an eternity.)

“The Day of the Doctor” is a feature-length episode, clocking in at 75 minutes, which seems to be shorter than what a 50th Anniversary special deserves but still longer than regular Doctor Who episodes and most of the Doctor Who specials, so that’s something.

Starring in “The Day of the Doctor” are Matt Smith (How to Catch a Monster) as the Eleventh Doctor, David Tennant (Broadchurch) as the Tenth Doctor, and Jenna Coleman (Dancing on the Edge) as current companion Clara, with Billie Piper (Secret Diary of a Call Girl) as former companion Rose Tyler and John Hurt (Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy) as… well, we’re not quite sure yet.

As an aside, take a look at what’s behind John Hurt in the poster. I spy with my little eye a couple of (dead?) Daleks, and the words “Bad Wolf.” Ooooooh!

Anyhoo, “The Day of the Doctor marks the first time that David Tennant and Billie Piper have appeared in the series since the 2010 Doctor Who New Year’s Day special, “The End of Time, Part Two.”

Eleventh Doctor Matt Smith said this about the 50th Anniversary special:

“‘The Day of the Doctor’ is nearly here! Hope you all enjoy. There’s lots more coming your way, as the countdown to the 50th begins now.”

And Doctor Who lead writer and executive producer Steven Moffat shared this:

“50 years has turned Doctor Who from a television show into a cultural landmark. Personally I can’t wait to see what it becomes after a hundred.”

The Day of the Doctor premieres on Saturday, 23 November 2013 on BBC America in the U.S. and on BBC One in the UK.

Stay tuned for more announcements regarding the BBC’s and BBC America’s Doctor Who 50th Anniversary programming.
