Wow, the Olympic Torch Relay today was so awesome and inspiring, I was moved to tears. (Guess I’ll be downright bawling during the Opening Ceremony tomorrow.) And I had to smile when the Ab Fab team of Joanna Lumley and Jennifer Saunders jointly carried the torch. You can watch the videos of them and other British celebrities carrying the torch in my last post.

Until coverage of the torch relay picks up tomorrow at 6:55AM local time (you can watch the live stream on the BBC website), how about watching some Summer Olympics-related movies (British and non) to keep the excitement going? Here are some ideas:

  • Chariots of Fire — True story of the determination and perseverance of two athletes — one Jewish, the other Protestant — who run for Great Britain in the 1924 Paris Olympics. Winner of the 1981 Academy Award for Best Picture.
  • Prefontaine and Without Limits — Movies about the life and tragic early death of runner and Olympic athlete Steve Prefontaine.
  • Walk, Don’t Run — Okay, this movie isn’t about the Olympics, but the 1964 Summer Olympics in Tokyo serve as the backdrop for this clever comedy starring Cary Grant and Samantha Eggar (two Brits) and Jim Hutton, who plays an Olympic athlete.

Enjoy!
