BritBox has announced the US premiere date for The Lady, a four-part drama about Jane Andrews, a former royal aide to the former wife of the former prince in the Windsor family.

Scandals in the British royal family, in this case a now-former member of it, can extend beyond the royals themselves to individuals who were in their employ. Such is the case with Jane Andrews, who, for nearly a decade, served as the royal dresser to Sarah Ferguson, the former Duchess of York.
Inspired by Andrews’s true story, The Lady tells of Jane’s dramatic rise and fall, which, from the looks of the trailer, is as shocking as the some of the goings-on within the family of the woman she served. Starring in the four-part, partly-fictionalized drama are Mia McKenna-Bruce (Agatha Christie’s Seven Dials, How to Have Sex) as Jane Andrews, Natalie Dormer (Game of Thrones, The Tudors) as Sarah Ferguson, the Duchess of York, and Ed Speleers (You, Downton Abbey) as Thomas Cressman (more about him in a bit).
Jane’s is a rags-to-riches fairy tale that fell apart when she was convicted of murder. Once a young working-class girl from a northern town, Jane answered an ad in The Lady magazine and, to the astonishment of her gobsmacked friends and family, became the dresser to the Duchess of York at Buckingham Palace. Moving amongst the highest social circles in Britain, she managed to secure a place in the upper-classes for herself until she lost her job with the Duchess after nine years of service.
Not long thereafter, Jane, still reeling from her spectacular fall from grace, met charismatic businessman Thomas Cressman and fell deeply in love. But cracks soon began to develop in the romance that Jane had pinned all of her hopes and future on… which ended with disastrous consequences.
The Lady, a BritBox Original, premieres in the US on Wednesday, March 18, exclusively on BritBox.
The cast also includes Philip Glenister (Life on Mars), Claire Skinner (Outnumbered), Laura Aikman (This City Is Ours), Ophelia Lovibond (Minx), Mark Stanley (A Cruel Love: The Ruth Ellis Story), Daniel Ryan (The Bay), and Sean Teale (Doctor Odyssey).
A production of Left Bank Pictures (The Crown), a Sony Pictures Television Company, The Lady was commissioned for BritBox by Jess O’Riordan and for ITV by Polly Hill. Jess O’Riordan and Stephen Nye oversaw production on behalf of BritBox, with Polly Hill overseeing on behalf of ITV.
