That Outlander is returning is bittersweet news for fans who have followed the series for the past decade, as the upcoming season will be its last.

(Spoilers follow if you haven’t watched but plan to watch Season 7.)

Season 8 follows on from the events in the Season 7 finale, when Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan, The Couple Next Door, Suspect) decided to resign his Continental Army commission and return to Fraser’s Ridge with his wife, Claire (Caitríona Balfe, Belfast, The Amateur). After an emotional family reunion, the MacKenzies needed to decide where and when to settle next. And the cliffhanger left fans questioning the true fate of Claire and Jamie’s first daughter, Faith.

As the eighth season begins, Jamie and Claire soon find the war has followed them home to Fraser’s Ridge, now a thriving settlement that has grown and flourished in their absence. With new arrivals and changes made during their years away, the Frasers are confronted with the questions of what they are willing to sacrifice for the place they call home and, more importantly, what they would sacrifice to stay together. While the Frasers keep a united front against outside intruders, family secrets that are finally coming to light threaten to tear them apart from the inside. Although they’ve left the war for America’s freedom behind, their fight for Fraser’s Ridge has only just begun.

Outlander: Season 8 premieres in the US on Friday, March 6, 2026, on the Starz app and all Starz streaming and on-demand platforms. New episodes will drop weekly on Fridays.

Costars include Sophie Skelton (Another Mother’s Son) as Brianna MacKenzie, Richard Rankin (Rebus) as Roger MacKenzie, John Bell (T2 Trainspottting) as Young Ian Murray, David Berry (A Place to Call Home) as Lord John Grey, Charles Vandervaart (Murdoch Mysteries) as William Ransom, and Izzy Meikle-Small (Ripper Street) as Rachel Murray.

A production of Sony Pictures Television, Outlander is inspired by Diana Gabaldon’s international best-selling “Outlander” novels. The series is executive produced by Matthew B. Roberts, Ronald D. Moore, Maril Davis, Toni Graphia, Luke Schelhaas, Andy Harries, Jim Kohlberg, Caitríona Balfe, and Sam Heughan.
