Still going strong for nearly two decades, Murdoch Mysteries is set to return to telly in the US with another season chock-full of clever mystery stories, surprising guest stars, and the trademark wit that fans of the show adore. And for the second year in a row, Ovation TV will air the series day-and-date with the Canadian broadcast on CBC.

Set in Toronto in the early 1900s, during the final decades of the Age of Invention, the show follows Detective William Murdoch (Yannick Bisson), who applies new and radical forensic techniques to solve some of the city’s most gruesome murders.

In Season 19, Murdoch and the team at the Toronto Constabulary have plenty of puzzlers to solve, such as: the murder of a fashion mogul that everyone had reason to kill; a politically-charged kidnapping of a Japanese scholar; a game show in which Murdoch participates turns lethal; wild animal attacks in High Park; a dangerous standoff when customers are taken hostage at a roadside inn; and more. In addition, Murdoch and Chief Constable Thomas Brackenreid (Thomas Craig) go to the very first Stampede in Calgary, and another mystery has them fighting spies atop a speeding train to the nation’s capital.

Murdoch Mysteries: Season 19 premieres in the US on Monday, October 6, at 8pm ET, on Ovation TV.

In addition to Murdoch and Brackenreid, longtime fans of and newbies to the show can look forward to seeing plenty more returning characters, including Constables George Crabtree (Jonny Harris), Henry Higgins (Lachlan Murdoch), and Teddy Roberts (Kataem O’Connor); Detective Llewellyn Watts (Daniel Maslany), Chief Coroner Violet Hart (Shanice Banton), and Inspector Albert Choi (Paul Sun-Hyung Lee, Kim’s Convenience, Avatar: The Last Airbender, The Mandalorian); and Margaret Brackenreid (Arwen Humphreys) and Crown Attorney Effie Newsome-Crabtree (Clare McConnell). Agent Terrence Myers (Peter Keleghan) and Louise Cherry (Bea Santos) also make appearances, as well as Station House #4’s nemesis, Mayor Chadwick Vaughan (Mark Caven).

Guest stars in Season 19 include Luann de Lesseps (The Real Housewives of New York City), who returns to the series in the premiere episode; Dave Foley and Scott Thompson of The Kids in the Hall, who appear in a special Christmas episode that also features Steven Page of The Barenaked Ladies; and Jason Mewes (Clerks, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back).

Murdoch Mysteries is based on Maureen Jennings’s popular “Detective Murdoch” series of novels and premiered in Canada in January 2008. It is executive produced by Christina Jennings, Scott Garvie, Yannick Bisson, Simon McNabb, and Peter Mitchell, who also serves as showrunner, and produced by Jeremy Hood and Julie Lacey. The series is developed and produced by Shaftesbury, in association with CBC, ITV STUDIOS, and UKTV, and with the participation of the Canada Media Fund, the IPF’s COGECO Television Production Fund, the Canadian Film or Video Production Tax Credit, and Ontario Creates. Shaftesbury Sales Company and ITV STUDIOS hold worldwide distribution rights for the series.
