BritBox announced today the US and Canada premiere date for its new Original commission: the mystery-crime drama series, Lynley. Check out the trailer.

Twenty-five years after the launch of The Inspector Lynley Mysteries TV series comes a brand new reboot: the BritBox-BBC series Lynley, based on the internationally best-selling “Inspector Lynley” novels by Elizabeth George.
A four-episode mystery-crime drama series, Lynley stars Leo Suter (Vikings: Valhalla, Sanditon, Victoria) as DI Tommy Lynley and Sofia Barclay (Ted Lasso, We Are Lady Parts, Defending the Guilty) as DS Barbara Havers — the beloved detective duo at the heart of the whodunits (played in the original series by Nathaniel Parker and Sharon Small).
Tommy Lynley is a brilliant police detective but an outsider in the force, simply by virtue of his aristocratic upbringing. (He’s the 8th Earl of Asherton, dontcha know.) Paired with him is Barbara Havers, a sergeant with a maverick attitude and a working-class background.
With seemingly nothing in common and against all odds, the mismatched duo of Lynley and Havers — with his brain and her spirit, his knowledge and her instincts — become a formidable crime-solving team, bonded by their desire to see justice done. It is through working side by side that they both find where they truly belong.
Lynley, a BritBox Original, premieres in the US and Canada on Thursday, September 4, exclusively on BritBox. New episodes will drop weekly through September 25. (The series will screen in the UK on BBC iPlayer and BBC One, date tba.)
Costarring in the series is Daniel Mays (Magpie Murders, Line of Duty), who plays DCI Brian Nies, the astute, suspicious Senior Detective at Three Counties Major Incident Team. Nies’s aversion to Lynley is partly born of his own insecurities about class and partly because he knows he’s no longer the smartest person in the room.
The ensemble cast also includes Niamh Walsh (The English Game), Michael Workeye (My Lady Jane), and Joshua Sher (Vera).
Created, written, and executive produced by Steve Thompson (Vienna Blood, Sherlock), the series is lead directed by Ed Bazalgette (Marie Antoinette, The Last Kingdom: Seven Kings Must Die) and produced by Suzanne McAuley (Magpie Murders, Love/Hate). The executive producers include David Stern and Colin Callender for Playground; Robert Schildhouse, Stephen Nye, Jon Farrar, and Jess O’ Riordan for BritBox; Kate Woods for BBC Studios; and Sue Deeks for the BBC.
Elizabeth George, the New York Times best-selling author of the original source material, serves as an executive producer on the series. The “Inspector Lynley” books (affiliate link) have been translated into more than 30 languages and adapted into the BBC series, The Inspector Lynley Mysteries, which ran from 2001-2007 and is currently available on BritBox.
