BritBox announced today the premiere date for its latest Original series, the crime thriller Code of Silence. Check out the trailer.
Six-part crime thriller Code of Silence is told through the point of view of Alison Brooks, a smart and determined Deaf woman. Struggling to make ends meet, Alison is juggling two jobs, one in a police canteen, the other in a local bar, while also doing her best to support her Deaf mum, Julie.
Alison’s life takes an unexpected turn when DS Ashleigh Francis recruits her for a high-stakes police investigation, asking her to use her lip-reading skills to monitor a dangerous criminal gang. As Alison’s interpretation of their covert conversations becomes central to the investigation, she is plunged into an exhilarating new world. Her role quickly becomes key to unlocking the police case, but her feelings become complicated when she finds herself drawn to one of the suspects, Liam Barlow. Despite knowing the risks and the growing threat to her personal life, Alison can’t let go.
Rose Ayling-Ellis (Ludwig, Signs for Change) stars as Alison Brooks, with Charlotte Ritchie (You, Ghosts, Call the Midwife) costarring as DS Ashleigh Francis, Andrew Buchan (Broadchurch, Black Doves, The Honourable Woman) as DI James Marsh, Kieron Moore (Vampire Academy, Masters of the Air, The Corps) as Liam Barlow, and Fifi Garfield (Coffee Morning Club, Deaf Funny) as Julie.
The cast also includes Nathan Armarkwei Laryea (The Witcher), Joe Absolom (Doc Martin, A Confession), Beth Goddard (The Serpent Queen, Manhunt), and Andrew Scarborough (Emmerdale, Wolfblood).
Here’s the American Sign Language (ASL) trailer.
Code of Silence, a BritBox original, premieres in the US and Canada with two episodes on Thursday, July 24, exclusively on BritBox. New episodes will drop singly on Thursdays through the finale on August 21. The series will be available to stream in ASL, as well.
Created by Catherine Moulton (Baptiste, Hijack), who drew on her own experiences with lip-reading and hearing loss for the story, the series is directed by Diarmuid Goggins (Kin, Black Cab, Witness No. 3) and Chanya Button (Doctor Who, World on Fire, Vita & Virginia), and produced by Joseph Shrubb (Endeavour, McDonald & Dodds).
A production of Mammoth Screen, part of ITV Studios, the series’ executive producers are Bryony Arnold and Damien Timmer for Mammoth Screen, Robert Schildhouse and Stephen Nye for BritBox, Rose Ayling-Ellis, and Catherine Moulton. ITV’s Director of Drama, Polly Hill, oversees the production for the network.
