PBS has set the premiere date for Season 4 of the popular British-Austrian mystery-crime drama series, Vienna Blood.
Filmed on location in Vienna, Austria, fan-favorite whodunit series Vienna Blood is returning with Detective Inspector Oskar Rheinhardt (Juergen Maurer, Anatomy of Evil) and Freudian psychoanalyst Max Liebermann (Matthew Beard, Magpie Murders) facing what could be the most dangerous case of their careers.
Season 4 finds the unlikely detective duo in Vienna in 1909, where the double murder of a senior public official and an arms dealer in police custody has shaken the city to its core. Max (Beard) has only just returned from a lecture tour in America when Oskar (Maurer) asks for his help on a case. Oskar must identify a high-level traitor known as Mephisto, who only exists in the mind of a dead man yet actually threatens the very existence of the Austro-Hungarian Empire.
Meanwhile, Max is at the top of his game, as his notoriety as a Freudian psychoanalyst has spread far and wide. However, his personal life is not coming up roses; it could be that he and Clara (Luise von Finckh, Sam – A Saxon) are not meant to be together. And Oskar’s life continues to be complicated by his feelings for Therese (Maria Köstlinger, Tatort: Vienna).
Working together on an increasingly perilous investigation, Oskar and Max uncover a conspiracy that leads to the heart of the government. Can they stop the seditious mole Mephisto from destroying the Austro-Hungarian Empire? And will their lives ever be the same?
Vienna Blood: Season 4 premieres in the US on Sunday, January 5, 2025, at 10pm ET, on PBS (check your local listings), with streaming available on PBS.org and the PBS app. New episodes will be released through January 26. All four episodes will also be available to stream on PBS Passport and the PBS Masterpiece Prime Video Channel.
The cast also includes Conleth Hill (Magpie Murders, Moonflower Murders, Game of Thrones), Amelia Bullmore (Scott & Bailey), and Charlene McKenna (Peaky Blinders, Bloodlands).
Based on the best-selling “Liebermann Papers” novels by Frank Tallis, the fourth season of Vienna Blood is written by Steve Thompson (Doctor Who, Leonardo, Sherlock), and directed by Umut Dağ (House of Promises).
