Fans of The Devil’s Hour, rejoice! Prime Video announced today the premiere date for the fabulous, Emmy®-nominated mystery thriller series’ second season!
Call me giddy, cuz I am so excited that the second season of The Devil’s Hour is arriving soon. I was entranced by the first season, with its supernatural, sci-fi, mystery story, brought to mind-bending life by series stars Jessica Raine (Patrick Melrose, Informer, Call the Midwife), Peter Capaldi (Criminal Record, Doctor Who, The Thick of It), Nikesh Patel (Starstruck, Four Weddings and a Funeral, Indian Summers), and Benjamin Chivers (Napoleon, Lockwood & Co.).
In Season 1, social worker Lucy Chambers (Jessica Raine) awakens from a nightmare each night at exactly 3:33am (aka the devil’s hour); she has done so for years. Her young son, Isaac (Benjamin Chivers), is emotionless, her mum, Sylvia (Barbara Marten, Sanctuary), suffers from dementia, and all three show other signs that something is not quite right with them.
Meanwhile, as DI Ravi Dhillon (Nikesh Patel), a cop with a bit of “Martin Ellingham” about him, and his partner, DS Nick Holness (Alex Ferns, Chernobyl), are investigating a couple of murders, they come across Lucy Chambers’s name. How is she linked to these crimes? Then there’s serial killer Gideon (Peter Capaldi), who claims to remember the future…
Heads up: Spoiler-ish details follow for folks who haven’t watched Season 1.
Coming up in Season 2, Lucy and Gideon form an uneasy alliance in order to prevent a recurring tragedy and hunt down an elusive monster. Lucy’s double life sees her torn between family and duty, as she finds herself in the crosshairs of Ravi, her past-life husband. Assisting Dhillon in his investigation is DS Sam Boyd (new cast member Saffron Hocking, Top Boy), who was mentored by DI Lucy Chambers in a previous life. Meanwhile, Isaac is discovering new emotions every day and struggling to keep his balance in a reality that rejects his existence.
Fresh mysteries unfold as the storylines converge on one explosive moment that will change the fate of the characters for the rest of their ever-recurring lives.
The Devil’s Hour: Season 2, an Amazon UK Original Series, premieres globally on Friday, October 18, exclusively on Prime Video.
Also returning for the new season are Phil Dunster (Ted Lasso), Meera Syal (Goodness Gracious Me), Thomas Dominique (Stay Close), and Rhiannon Harper-Rafferty (Midsomer Murders).
A production of Hartswood Films (Dracula, Sherlock), the five-part second season is written and created by Tom Moran, directed by Johnny Allan (Bodkin) and Shaun James Grant (Criminal Record), and produced by Lawrence Till (Silent Witness). The executive producers are Sue Vertue, Tom Moran, and Steven Moffat.
Filming for the third season recently wrapped at Shepperton Studios, Hampshire, Surrey, and Dartmoor. Stay tuned for updates about Season 3.
