Another animal-titled series — Lions (w/t) — is coming from Richard Gadd, who shot to international fame with his autobiographically-based stalker drama Baby Reindeer.

With Lions, the story tries to get to the bottom of a difficult question: What does it mean to be a man?

When Niall’s estranged “brother” Ruben shows up at his wedding, it leads to an explosion of violence that catapults viewers back through their lives. Spanning nearly forty years, from the 1980s to the present day, the six-episode drama series will cover the highs and lows of the brothers’ relationship, from their meeting as teenagers to their falling out as adults — with all the good, bad, terrible, funny, angry, and challenging moments along the way.

Created, written, and executive produced by Richard Gadd (Baby Reindeer, Sex Education), Lions has Alexandra Brodski (Somewhere Boy, Rivals) and Eshref Reybrouck (Ferry: The Series, Cheyenne & Lola) attached to direct. The HBO-BBC series is produced by Wendy Griffin (Limbo, The Lost King), and executive produced by Tally Garner and Morven Reid from Mam Tor Productions (a Banijay UK company), Gaynor Holmes for the BBC, and Gavin Smith for BBC Scotland.

A production of Mam Tor Productions for HBO, BBC One, BBC Scotland, and BBC iPlayer, Lions is supported by Screen Scotland. Banijay Rights handles international distribution outside the UK, Ireland, and US.

A premiere date has not been set yet. Stay tuned for updates.
