HBO announced today the start of production and additional cast members of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, a new series within the Game of Thrones franchise.
Production has started in Belfast, Ireland, on A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, a new action-adventure series adapted from George R. R. Martin’s novella The Hedge Knight.
The lead cast are Peter Claffey (Bad Sisters, Harry Wild) and Dexter Sol Ansell (The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes, The Midwich Cuckoos).
Set a century before the events of Game of Thrones, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms follows two unlikely heroes who wandered Westeros: Ser Duncan the Tall (Peter Claffey), a young, naïve but courageous knight, and Egg (Dexter Sol Ansell), his diminutive squire. This is an age when the Targaryen line still holds the Iron Throne, and the memory of the last dragon has not yet passed from living memory. For these two improbable and incomparable friends, great destinies, powerful foes, and dangerous exploits await them.
Joining the cast are Finn Bennett (True Detective, Domina) as Aerion Targaryen, Bertie Carvel (Dalgliesh, Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell) as Baelor Targaryen, Tanzyn Crawford (Swift Street, Servant) as Tanselle, Daniel Ings (The Gentlemen, Sex Education) as Ser Lyonel Baratheon, and Sam Spruell (Fargo, The Bastard Executioner) as Maekar Targaryen.
Also joining the series is Sarah Adina Smith (Lessons In Chemistry, Hanna), who will direct three of the six episodes. Previously announced director and executive producer Owen Harris (Black Mirror, Misfits) will also direct three episodes.
Written and executive produced by George R.R. Martin and Ira Parker, the series is executive produced by Ryan Condal, Vince Gerardis, Owen Harris, and Sarah Bradshaw.
