As a huge fan of the show myself, I’m thrilled to bits that we’ll get to see more of The Chelsea Detective, as it’s clever and quirky and fun to watch. The upcoming new season, which is currently filming in and around London, promises to be the biggest and boldest yet, with four new thrilling cases. Ooh!

The show’s leads, Adrian Scarborough (Killing Eve, The King’s Speech, 1917) and Vanessa Emme (Dublin Murders, Three Families), are reprising their roles as Detective Inspector Max Arnold and Detective Sergeant Layla Walsh, respectively.

Said Adrian Scarborough:

“I’m delighted to be back as DI Arnold for another series of The Chelsea Detective. It’s a joy to return to the team – and to my houseboat!”

Vanessa Emme added:

“I adore playing Layla and building on her professional partnership with Max. I’m delighted to be back and resuming my role with the team to tackle the compelling investigations ahead in Season 3.”

In the third season’s four feature-length episodes, we’ll see DI Max Arnold (Scarborough) and DS Layla Walsh (Emme) delving once more into the murky crimes of glamorous Chelsea, including the tragic death of a 2000s pop star, the case of a climate scientist found dead in a supercar, and others committed in and around the impenetrable world of the US Embassy, the splendor of Kew Gardens, and a classical music academy.

Outside of work, Max tries a new approach in his personal life as he embarks on couples therapy with his estranged wife, Astrid. Meanwhile, Layla is still getting used to living in London, while her partner, Jon, is in Exeter. They might be enjoying their independent lives right now, but they’ll discover that navigating a long-distance relationship can be trickier than they first thought.

In addition to Scarborough and Emme, all of the series regulars are set to return, too, including Sophie Stone (Shetland) as Chief Forensics Officer Ashley Wilton, Lucy Phelps (Grace) as DC Jess Lombard, Peter Bankolé (Peaky Blinders) as DC Connor Pollock, Frances Barber (Whitstable Pearl) as Max’s Aunt Olivia, and Anamaria Marinca (Temple) as Astrid.

Created and executive produced by Emmy® Award-winning Peter Fincham (The Lost Prince, Smack the Pony, I’m Alan Partridge) and executive produced by Ella Kelly (Death in Paradise, Midsomer Murders), the series’ four new episodes are written by Peter Fincham, Glen Laker (Vera, Prime Suspect), the team of Debbie Oates and Ian Kershaw (Cold Feet, Medici), and Nicola Wilson (Call the Midwife, Good Karma Hospital). They are produced by Lauriel Martin (Dodger, Smothered) and directed by Jennie Darnell (Payback, Trigger Point) and Richard Signy (Death in Paradise, Silent Witness).

The Chelsea Detective is produced by Acorn TV’s Acorn Media Enterprises, Germany’s ZDF, and BBC Studios’ invested indie Expectation. Acorn TV serves as the exclusive home for the series in the US, Canada, the UK, Australia, and New Zealand, amongst other territories. BBC Studios distributes the series internationally.

Stay tuned for updates.
